چکیده

The unpredictable location of nodes in Ad-hoc and Sensor networks has caused new challenges to the known routing Algorithms. Flooding is the most frequently used method to ease these new difficulties. Flooding also plays an important role in unicast and multicast protocols in ad hoc networks. Unfortunately Flooding suffers from immense unnecessary overhead and thus wastes a great deal of energy. The waste of energy is totally unacceptable in Ad hoc networks, especially in sensor networks with tight power constrains and limited power source. In this letter we try to overcome the flooding problems by a new bandwidth efficient method for flooding called Maximum Angle Based flooding (MAB). The new algorithm reduces the number of unnecessary packets broadcast and thus saves a great deal of energy. In this new algorithm, each node uses a random delay before rebroadcast of the received packet. In the mean time the node monitors the incoming packets and makes a decision whether to rebroadcast or drop the packet. The decision is made based on the arrival direction of the packets. MAB results in a great reduction in total overhead and number of collisions with the cost of a little adverse effect in packet delivery latency.

Routing and Broadcasting in Hybrid Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks

Hybrid ad hoc networks consist of two kinds of nodes, regular nodes and nodes with additional capabilities. For example, multi-hop cellular and wireless Internet networks consist of static or mobile nodes and access points to a fixed infrastructure. Each node may access fixed infrastructure either directly or via other nodes in multi-hop fashion. Another example is heterogeneous sensor networks...

Improving Quality of Service Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks Using OLSR

Mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) are constructed by mobile nodes without access point. Since MANET has certain constraints, including power shortages, an unstable wireless environment and node mobility, more power-efficient and reliable routing protocols are needed. The OLSR protocol is an optimization of the classical link state algorithm. OLSR introduces an interesting concept, the multipoint r...

Determining Cluster-Heads in Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks Using Multi-Objective Evolutionary based Algorithm

A mobile ad-hoc network (MANET), a set of wirelessly connected sensor nodes, is a dynamic system that executes hop-by-hop routing independently with no external help of any infrastructure. Proper selection of cluster heads can increase the life time of the Ad-hoc network by decreasing the energy consumption. Although different methods have been successfully proposed by researchers to tackle...

Distributed Topology Control for Efficient OSPF Routing in Multi-hop Wireless Networks

This paper studies distributed topology control algorithms to support the efficient Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) link state routing in multi-hop wireless networks. It is highly desirable to retain the basic OSPF model of reliable flooding, especially when large quantities of external, rarelychanging routing data must be carried across the radio network. However, it is not easy to implement r...
